McHenry Residence

Architect designed in the midst of a huge beech plantation, the McHenry residence is a shrine to all things contemporary, yet retains a sense of carefully referenced identity among more traditional surrounding properties with its use of locally made bricks and complex, steeply pitched roof lines.

Unusually, the proposed project was to be situated to the frontal aspect of the property, not least as a result of the high threshold the client had specified with just such an addition in mind!

Balcony's brief was to mirror the designed profile by delivering a contemporary project that cleverly utilized a combination of geometric and circular shapes.

The result was a totally unique balcony that spanned almost the entire width of the properties frontal aspect.

A dramatic flared stairway invites guest to an octagonal landing that affords a commanding view of the surrounding woodland.

From there the balcony steps up to approach the property's impressive oversize front door and continues both left and right in a series of octahedrons, subtly diminishing in size.

Mike McHenry comments:
"This is exactly what I had in mind when first I visualized the finished house - the fact that Balcony built such a complete project after the house was built is a testament to the thoroughness of the design & build process which they have so expertly deployed"
